Exclusive!!!! Dig For Victory Friday Night Theatre
This year, we are delighted to present the award winning Clevedon School Musical Theatre performing Mark Wheeler’s “One Evacuee”. A musical production for all ages based on playwright, Mark Wheeler’s late mother and her experience of being an evacuee as part of Operation Pied Piper.
This is an exclusive ticketed performance, and admission will include entry to the Dig for Victory Showground on the evening of Friday 13th June. Doors open at 5.00pm. Performance begins at 6.00pm and will finish at approximately 8.00pm, with an intermission.

Bringing History Alive In The Home Front Marquee!

We’re thrilled to announce that renowned historian and TV presenter Alex Langlands will be joining us as a guest speaker at this year’s Dig For Victory Show! Alex will be talking about the making of BBC’s 8 part series The Wartime Farm.
Neil Barber has been interviewing veterans and studying the actions of the 6th Airborne Division in Normandy for almost 30 years. During that time, he has written two definitive books (The Day the Devils Dropped In and Pegasus Bridge), worked as an advisor on both TV, films and documentaries and as a proof reader for other authors writing about the Division. He is a Committee Member of the 9th Parachute Battalion Reunion Club and a former member of the Merville Battery Museum Committee.
Cathy Faulkner’s debut novel, Digging for Victory, was published by Firefly Press in 2023 and was longlisted for the Yoto Carnegie Medal, the Branford Boase Award and the UKLA Book Awards. It was shortlisted for The Week Junior Book Awards, and featured in The Sunday Times Best Books for Children 2023. Mike Brown was head of history in a London comprehensive school for many years. In the absence of a book about the Home Front for his pupils, he decided to write one. It was the first of 27 books, mainly on aspects of civilian life in WW2, written for and about children and adults. His books look at the Second World War in terms of home life, fashion, food, ARP, the experiences of evacuees and of the children who stayed at home. Mike give talks on the home front at museums, clubs, schools, and other venues.
Carol Harris is the author of various books on aspects of women's lives in the two world wars of the twentieth century. Born in London, she grew up in Clacton-On-Sea in Essex, but moved back to the city as a teenager to train as a news reporter. She continues to work as a journalist, writing and mainly about health and social care. As well as writing books and articles, Carol Harris gives talks, works for various broadcasters and is currently an interaction volunteer at the Imperial War Museum.
Utility Jude will once again demonstrate some ration saving recipes in her Wartime Kitchen. But she needs to look sharp as she is visited by the Minstry of Food Inspector, Mr B. Hazell He will be on hand to answer any of your ration book queries and to show how the Ministry is making sure that the new canteens are helping us all keep fit and healthy in Wartime.
Dickie Lines will be in conversation with Dig For Victory’s very own Home Front compere Peter! Dickie wil be sharing his encyclopaedic knowledge of the music of the 1940s on Saturday afternoon.
David Shopland - a little boy who has a tale to tell as he was there when it happened, before and during the War and left it to Churchill to get things right! Join David to hear memories of his childhood during WW2.

Erica and Cliff - our wonderful dance teachers, have been dancing together for 20 years. They have brought their own styles and experience together and ended up with a truly characterful style of Swing Dance. Join them in the Victory Marquee for our FREE dance lessons on Saturday and Sunday!
Beth Burdge is a wonderful soprano making her debut at The Dig For Victory Show. Beth is a vocal specialist from Wells Cathedral school and will be singing classical wartime hits.
Gramaphonegrooves will be with us this year, playing original 78's on an original HMV 101 gramophone - they’re a small party in a big pram! Make sure you pop by and share their bonkers fun and games including ‘Tune and a Tipple’!
We are thrilled to be welcoming Weston Brass to the show for the first time this year. Weston Brass are a traditional amateur brass band and will be joining us on Sunday for our Service of Remembrance and later in the Victory Marquee.
Professor Paul Wheeler’s Punch & Judy is back to keep you entertained in the Victory Square! So you don’t miss seeing this classic show, Mr Punch and all his friends will be appearing three times on Saturday and Sunday.
